I don't know what happened to my blog-posting mojo, but obviously it's been missing in action for months. I'm still working on the rug in my recent post (March!) and have started several other projects. I'll try to catch up to myself on here. Below is a totally fun project I just completed. It's very clever (not my idea--I took a class to learn how to construct it). It's a punched a "slipcover" for one of those ubiquitous zippered mesh plastic pouches; I learned to measure and figure a plan to size the cover correctly, Then punched it, then inserted the bag inside and hand-sewed it in. Et voilà, a waterproof pouch that can be used for anything from textile tools to creams and lotions to snacks, etc. What a fun class taught by Rebecca White Martin, a fabulous Oxford Certified Punch Needle Instructor; I think she said she learned this from a class on wool appliqué. Anyway, she ran with the idea, using it to create several adorable punched pouches. I enjoyed every minute of her class. The design is my own, adapted one of my favorite tangles, called Baecube. Details under the photos. The best part of the project was not having to install a zipper using a sewing machine since the zipper was already part of the inner bag. I just hand-sewed the bag inside; the rest of the project was punching, with a bit of light basting and yarn-whipping around three edges that I always use on rug hooking or punching projects anyway. Easy-peasy. Cannot wait to make another one!
